The Data Center Technician’s primarily responsibility is to fulfill all client requests for new hardware. Qualified candidates will show the desire and ability to consistently exceed clients’ expectations for efficiency, alertness, and accuracy, as well as aptitude and passion for independent troubleshooting. In addition to processing new server requests, this position will involve the testing, organizing, and auditing of data center inventory.
Pack, unpack, and test servers and hardware.
Process new server requests, cancellations, RMA bad hardware, perform maintenance tasks on servers (RAM, rsync, hard drive replacements, etc.) including racking servers and cabling.
Audit server inventory.
Transport servers between company facilities as needed.
Install operating systems on servers, primarily CentOS and Linux.
Clean, organize and inspect the data centers.
Check alarms from CRAC and UPS units.
Check for alarms or warnings on the data center floor, including all managed servers and colocation customers on data center floor.
Facilitate inter-shift communication by maintaining accurate and detailed logs and shift notes; include steps taken to meet client requests and fulfill other internal tasks.
Communicate with clients, other systems engineers, and management; provide regular status updates of pending or completed work.
Prioritize and resolve trouble tickets with efficiency and completeness.
Some experience working in a DC, NOC, or similar environment preferred.
Proficiency with cable testing, dressing, and terminating, and other tasks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to independently troubleshoot
Relentless attention to detail
Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with frequent near-vision use for reading and computer use
Requires extended periods of sitting
Requires the ability to lift and hold equipment that weighs up to forty (40) pounds
May require working in areas with limited space or elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
Position is required to be present at the assigned work station during all work hours
May require work during non-traditional hours and on the weekends as required by the demands of the position
Data center operations is a 24/7/365 operation. As a result, this position requires shift work and some work on holidays.
